Context Map

A strategic DDD diagram that shows bounded contexts and the relationships or integration patterns between them.

Motivation

A Context Map makes the boundaries between domain models visible and explains how teams and systems collaborate across them.

Typical relationships

Maps may describe upstream and downstream dependencies, customer-supplier relationships, conformist relationships, anti-corruption layers, shared kernels, or separate ways.

Common mistakes

  • Drawing services without explaining domain boundaries.
  • Omitting ownership and direction of influence.
  • Treating the map as a static organisation chart.
