Halstead Metrics

Halstead Metrics derive measures such as program vocabulary, length, volume, difficulty, and effort from counts of operators and operands in source code. They attempt to quantify implementation size and complexity from lexical structure.

They are sometimes used as inputs to composite measures such as Maintainability Index. Because results depend strongly on language syntax and tooling, they are best treated as comparative signals rather than direct measures of developer effort or software quality.
