Platform Service
A Platform Service is a reusable technical capability provided by an internal platform for product teams. Examples include managed databases, deployment pipelines, secrets, observability, messaging, identity integration, and runtime environments.
A platform service should be consumable through clear self-service interfaces, documented contracts, paved-road defaults, and reliable operational ownership. It differs from an ad hoc shared service because it is intentionally managed as part of a coherent platform product.
Useful platform services reduce cognitive load while preserving escape hatches for exceptional needs.
