Programming Language

A formal language used to express computations, transformations, constraints, or instructions for a computer system.

Programming Language

A programming language provides syntax and semantics for expressing computation. Languages differ in purpose, abstraction level, execution model, type system, and intended users.

General-purpose and domain-specific are useful categories, but not a perfect binary: languages can evolve, embed one another, or serve broad and narrow use cases at the same time.
