Star Schema
A dimensional model with a central fact table connected directly to denormalized dimension tables.
Star Schema
A star schema places a fact table at the center and connects it directly to descriptive dimension tables. Its shape simplifies analytical queries and makes business metrics easier to understand.
Compared with highly normalized operational schemas, star schemas intentionally duplicate some descriptive data to reduce joins and improve usability. The main risks are unclear grain, inconsistent dimensions, and measures that are aggregated incorrectly.
