AGI
A hypothetical AI system with broad, general-purpose cognitive ability across many domains rather than narrow task-specific competence.
Motivation
AGI is the idea of an AI system that can generalize across many tasks instead of being narrowly optimized for one task. It is useful as a reference point when discussing the limits of current AI systems.
Mental model
Most current AI systems are powerful specialists. AGI would be closer to a general problem solver that can transfer knowledge across unfamiliar domains.
Where it fits
AGI belongs to the Product track, inside AI Applications. It relates to LLMs, AI agents, deep learning, and machine learning, but it is not the same as any one of them.
Common mistakes
- Treating every strong LLM as AGI.
- Confusing broad language ability with robust real-world reasoning.
- Assuming AGI has a single agreed technical definition.
